Ladies Jacket – What is it? Why you need one
What is a Ladies Jacket?
Well, you’re probably thinking, “Dana, what the heck is a ladies jacket?!” A ladies jacket is a super versatile jacket because it can be worn as a top, a third piece, or a coat! It’s feminine and timeless. I think a lot of people associate them with tweed fabrics, but luckily the talented designers at J.Crew have helped me see them in a different way. I own a lot of women’s jackets now and I really love them. They’ve really gotten better and better.
I love the construction of these jackets. I don’t mean strictly structured clothing – I mean the composition of the garment. The shorter, almost cropped length allows you to pair many different pieces with the jacket. I also love (at least for me) that the sleeves of women’s jackets always go over my wrists. I think it’s such a stylish and feminine touch!
How to wear it.
At first, I wasn’t quite sure how I wanted to style it. My first lady jacket was this sweater version (which is sold out because it’s for fall, but here’s a great update) – it felt like the simplest iteration. I love the classic silhouette with gold buttons, it feels very Parisian (and I think my recent pins are very Parisian too). J.Crew has really expanded the selection of women’s jackets, so they’re more than just a cute sweater.
I’ve already bought a whole year’s worth of women’s jackets, and it’s not enough! The Emilie sweater 100000% is my current favorite. It’s the best sweater I’ve ever bought – and I wear it a lot. This one sat in my cart haunting me until the temperatures dropped.
I love seeing all the styles on women’s jackets. Here are a few ways we design them:
With jeans and a t-shirt
With jeans (as a top)
Layer a white button down under a collarless women’s jacket with bottoms
Third piece, open, with shorts and sandals
